Ex-teacher pleads not guilty again in student sex case
CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) — A former substitute teacher has pleaded not guilty again to charges that she had sexual contact with a Cedar Rapids student.
Court records show 24-year-old Mary Haglin entered the plea Thursday on the felony count of sexual exploitation. She'd pleaded not guilty in September to the original misdemeanor charge of sexual exploitation by a school employee.
A court document supporting the tougher charge says that in television interviews Haglin "admitted engaging in a pattern or practice of sexual conduct with a student while employed as a teacher" at Washington High School. Authorities say she had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old boy who attended the school.
A Dec. 5 hearing has been set on Haglin's request to move her trial out of Linn County because of pretrial publicity.
