Fairfield baseball beats Central Lee
Justin Leonard has made just two starts on the mound for the Fairfield baseball team, but each time he has gone the distance.
Leonard pitched seven innings and allowed just three walks, three hits and two earned runs in Fairfield’s 9-3 victory Wednesday over Central Lee.
Class 3A No. 7 Fairfield (12-4, 4-2 SEC) jumped on the Hawks early, scoring nine runs in the first three innings. The Trojans were able to coast the rest of the way with Leonard on the mound and a comfortable lead on the scoreboard.
Austin Gridley drilled his fifth home run of the season over the right field wall in the first inning. Gridley, batting .421 on the year, is leading the team with 15 RBIs and is tied with Cameron Baumann for the team lead in homers. Gridley finished the game 2-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
Fairfield’s bats stayed hot in the second inning. The Trojans tacked on four more runs, two of which came on a Mason Ellis two-run double. Ellis went 3-5 in the game and is now batting an even .400 on the season.
Another double came in the third inning courtesy of Kooper Dahlstrom, who plated Joe Hietpas and Gridley on the play. Dahlstrom finished the game 2-3 with four RBIs.
Jordan Reid also provided a hit, a RBI and a stolen base.
The Trojans’ games tonight in Knoxville have been canceled. Fairfield will host Albia on Friday.
