The Fairfield bowling team hosted Keokuk and Louisa-Muscatine at Flamingo Lanes on Saturday.

The varsity boys’ team defeated both Keokuk and Louisa-Muscatine. Cody Craff bowled a 238 in game two of round one, while Kyle Ruckman finished round one with a combined score of 391 to lead the Trojans.

“The boys’ team picked a great day to put some good scores together,” Fairfield bowling coach Lisa Greenig said. “They were able to beat two really good teams.”

The varsity girls’ weren’t as lucky. Even though Fairfield put together its highest varsity girls’ score of the year, Keokuk proved to be too much for the Trojans to handle and won 2,570-2,315. Lakyn Boltz led the Chiefs with an overall first round 392, which included one game where she bowled over 200. Freshman Kylee Marlay led the Fairfield girls with a first round 391.

“I was pleased to see the team come together to earn their highest score of the year,” Greenig said. “A few of our girls had been struggling and their confidence was lacking. This is just what they needed to believe in themselves again.”

The Fairfield JV boys bowled against the Louisa-Muscatine varsity boys because Knoxville canceled and didn’t make it to the meet. The JV boys’ scores didn’t count for placing, but they competed against the varsity boys’ from Louisa-Muscatine to ensure that each team could monitor their progress against live bowlers. Freshman Logan Stark bowled a round one 301 to lead the Trojans.

Fairfield will travel today to once again face Louisa-Muscatine. The Trojans will host conference opponent Mt. Pleasant at 1:30 Saturday.
