Fairfield boys' bowling routs Panthers in home opener

Dec 17, 2012

The Fairfield boys’ bowling team won its first dual of the season in its home opener Saturday, blasting Southeast Conference rival Mount Pleasant 2844-2560.

Once again, sophomore Andrew Chatfield and senior Brady Hammes led the boys’ team, which built a 195-pin after round one. Chatfield eclipsed 200 in both his games and finished 55 pins above his practice average. Hammes rolled the best game (228) and series (408) of the day for Fairfield.

Also for the Trojans in round one, Gabe Hull bowled a 382, and Mitch Goudy (352) and Ben Hull (329) scored. Jacob Adam had an alternate score of 295.

The Trojans then added onto their lead in round two, scoring a 968 to Mount Pleasant’s 879.

Fairfield’s varsity girls, meanwhile, came up short against Mount Pleasant after falling behind early. The Trojans lost by 139 pins, 2288-2149, to fall to 0-2 on the young season.

Megan Harris led the Trojans with a series of 320, and Kristen Terrell (312) and Tracy Andermann (300) each scored personal bests in round one. Madelyn Swan rolled a 285 series with a top game of 174, and Kayla Miller rolled a 283 series. Nicci Mellott was an alternate at 277.

Fairfield trailed by just 20 pins after round one but was outscored 768-649 in Baker competition.

In JV action, the Trojan girls were only four members strong but still performed well as a team, while the boys won 2344-1903.

For the girls, Carrigan Haile was the top performer with a 219 series. Abby Adam was 40 pins over her average thanks to a 120 game. Laura Clemons and Jenna Nelson also bowled well above their practice averages.

“This was the first competition for all the JV players except Jenna,” said Fairfield coach Lisa Greenig. “I’m very pleased with how well they did today.”

In the JV boys competition, senior Randy Andermann bowled a varsity worthy series of 357 and personal best game of 221. Jake Kessel wasn’t far behind with a 350 series, while Cody Craff (302), Chet Vogt (300) and Jacob Dunn (286) also scored for Fairfield.

The Trojans will be back at home Jan. 12 vs. rival Washington.
