Fairfield boys' tennis wins for first time this season
The Fairfield boys’ tennis team won its first match of the season Tuesday 5-2 over Fort Madison.
No .1 player Govi Punj defeated Wesley Burnhardt 6-0, 6-1 in the top match of the day. Landen Greiner (6-1, 6-2) pulled out a win in the No. 3 match, while Cody White earned his first win of the season by the score of 6-4, 6-2 over Fort Madison’s Jarrett Lightfoot.
“An asterisk must be placed by the win, however,” Fairfield coach Bill Sheppard said. “Fort Madison was only able to bring a five-man squad and thus had to [forfeit] two positions.”
The last doubles matches were canceled because of rain.
Nonetheless, the Trojans are in the win column and will host Davis County on Thursday.
