Fairfield Concert Association presents New Odyssey show
The Fairfield Concert Association brings a unique concert of classic rock, country, novelty and specialty arrangements from New Odyssey to the Sondheim theater, at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The musical variety show features three guys wielding 30 instruments and combine their individual virtuosity for a production featuring comedy, skits and audience participation, or as they like to say, “Our show has gags, gusto and far more than simple guitar riffs and it’s fun for the whole family.”
The guys of New Odyssey are a team with eclectic backgrounds ranging in areas of musical theater to acrobatics. Gary Todd not only sings and plays over 15 instruments, he began performing with his family’s acrobat act since he was 2 years old. Michael Jay has been composing and performing with nationally renowned artists for years, as well as doing television and radio commercials, and even sang the national anthem for the Chicago Cubs. Gary Polkow is the musical director of the band, and has been involved with films, synthesizer sound design, directing, and more.
Expect the unexpected at a New Odyssey show. Once the show gets going, they start putting on costumes and getting people on stage in the family friendly energetic show. Comedic stunts take performances far beyond the basics of a traditional concert and their music oriented skits add a dose of zaniness. Audience members can join in and get a chance to perform along with the music, honking horns, or donning silly costumes.
General admission tickets for New Odyssey are $20 available at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center, 472-2787 and www.FairfeldACC.com.
Fairfield Concert Association members are admitted free with proof of membership.
