ALBIA — The Fairfield girls found themselves in a double-digit deficit early, but late-game heroics lifted them past Albia for a 47-45 road victory Tuesday.

Trailing 17-6 following the first quarter, Fairfield whittled away at the deficit to come within 26-22 at halftime. Then, a 14-4 run in the third quarter handed the Trojans their first lead of the evening — one they would never relinquish.

“Albia came out on fire and got their crowd behind them early. We could have really broke at that point,” said Fairfield head coach Mick Flattery. “I was very proud of how our gals kept their composure ... remembering that it is a four-quarter game, not one.”

The win was the second of the season for Fairfield, which had suffered two straight losses last week.

Senior Sidney Baumann paved the way for Fairfield with 19 points and six rebounds, while junior teammate Marisa Repp scored 15 and pulled down five boards.

“Sidney Baumann had a smaller gal on her and did a great job posting up and driving on her way to 19 points, and Marisa Repp penetrated the gaps for points really well,” said Flattery.

Brittany Kurtz and Miranda Metcalf scored four points apiece, with both hitting 2 of 3 shots from the field. Sydney Burnett scored two points and dished out four assists, Hanna Greiner scored two and McKenna Ledger grabbed four rebounds.

Fairfield (2-2, 0-1 SEC) hosts Washington on Friday.
