Fairfield JV softball earns one win at Ottumwa invite
OTTUMWA — Fairfield JV Black rallied back from a four-run deficit Saturday to top Chariton 8-6 at the Ottumwa JV Invitational in Ottumwa.
The Trojans, who initially trailed 6-2 in the contest, scored six runs in the fourth inning to earn the two-run victory.
Leading the way for Fairfield was Taylor Ferrel, who had two doubles in addition to one run plated and an RBI. Kaylee Watson had one RBI and slapped a triple, and Kelsey Roberts, Lindsey Repp and Caytlyn Nystrom knocked in one run apiece. Brooke McLain, Delaney Neil, Ashlyn Elmore and Brynna Bowman all came around to score.
Haley Beard got the call to start and faced nine batters before being hit above the knee with a line drive that took her out of the game. Neil came in for relief and got the win, pitching 3 2/3 innings and allowing two runs on five hits.
Earlier in the day, the Trojans lost a 7-4 game to the host Bulldogs. Ottumwa led 5-0 before Fairfield scored one run in the fourth inning and three more in the top of the fifth.
Bowman pitched the complete five-inning game, allowing seven runs on nine hits and a walk. She fanned two.
Offensively, Watson led the way with a single, triple and three runs batted in. Bowman slapped a pair of singles and had one RBI, and Ferrel doubled and scored. Both Roberts and Sara Trent plated one run each.
Fairfield is scheduled to play again Tuesday at home vs. Fort Madison. Start time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
