Fairfield Middle School Band sends 35 to honor band festival
Fairfield Middle School sent 35 students to the Mt. Pleasant Honor Band Festival April 5.
The event was held at Mt. Pleasant High School and hosted 220 students from 15 area schools.
The 100 members in the sixth-grade band, including 16 from FMS, were directed by Jim DePriest, the high school band director from Mt. Pleasant. The sixth-graders performed four pieces: “Scorpion!” by Richard Saucedo; “Andalucia” by Victor Lopez; “Cowboy Cattle Drive” by Timothy Loest; and “Of Distant Peaks” by Robert Sheldon.
The 120-piece seventh- and eighth-grade band, including 19 FMS students, was directed by Kevin Brown, director at Northwest Junior High in Iowa City. The seventh- and eighth-graders performed: “Captain American March,” by Alan Silvestri and arranged by Paul Murtha; “Ancient Voices” by Roland Barrett; “Afterburn” by Randall Standridge; and “King’s Mountain Adventure” by Ed Huckeby.
At the concert, the directors of the participating schools, also performed in the Fossil Jazz Band, while the two bands were making set changes.
