Fairfield school hires tech director
Fairfield Community School District officials have announced the hiring of a new technology director.
John Grunwald has accepted an offer to become the next technology director for Fairfield Community School District. Grunwald has been an elementary/middle school vocal and general music instructor in the district the last four school years.
Prior to serving as a music instructor in Fairfield, he was a vocal and general music instructor at Harmony Community School District where he also served as technology director for 11 years.
While serving in that capacity, Grunwald designed, installed and implemented the network for all district buildings at Harmony and administrated the webpage, security system, student management system and other functions.
During his tenure as a music instructor in Fairfield, Grunwald has been a leader in instructional technology. Most recently, he arranged for school music concerts to be live-streamed with equipment purchased through a Fairfield Education Foundation grant. Hundreds of people viewed concerts from across the United States. The concerts were viewed internationally, as well.
In a press release issued by the Fairfield Community School District, administrative officials said the selection committee was impressed by Grunwald’s commitment to the district, his knowledge of local issues and personnel and his positive attitude toward handling challenges.
“I am excited to delve into the technology realm once again,” Grunwald said. “It will be great to be part of leading the Fairfield School District forward with technology, and I am excited about the opportunity.”
Grunwald will begin his duties as technology director on July 16 after his hiring is approved by the Fairfield Community School District board of Directors at their regularly scheduled meeting Monday. Mark Cremer, outgoing technology director, will assist Grunwald in his transition to the new position.
Grunwald’s wife, Heidi Grunwald, is a family and consumer science instructor at Fairfield High School. The couple lives in Fairfield with their three children: Haley, Drew and Blair.
