The winner of that opener will take on either New London, which was previously ranked 15th in 1A, or Davis County in the second round Saturday.
The other side of the bracket includes another tourney favorite in host Fairfield, and Chariton is the first team standing in its path to the title. Fairfield and Chariton begin play at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Cardinal and Wilton will play in the other opening round game. The matchup gets the tournament started at 2 p.m. Friday.
Games will take play at the softball field behind Fairfield Middle School as well as the diamond at O.B. Nelson Park. The championship game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the middle school field.
