Fairfield softball sweeps MustangsTrojans score 27 runs in two games
Davis County was used as a tune-up for Southeast Conference play by the Fairfield softball team.
The Trojans improved to 3-1 on the young season Monday with two road victories over the Mustangs, which enabled Fairfield to gain some confidence before hosting Washington to start conference play Thursday.
“We did what we needed to do to win,” Fairfield coach Bob Bradfield said. “We wanted to make sure we got both games, and we did that.”
Fairfield won the first game in four innings 13-0. Sophomore pitcher Alli Deao allowed only one hit and two walks, striking out five Mustangs in her four innings. Deao contributed at the plate as well, going 2-2 with three RBI.
Davis County pitchers struggled in both games, giving Fairfield seven walks and five base runners due to being hit by a pitch in the first game alone.
“It’s hard to judge our progress because the pitching wasn’t as good as we saw last week or what we’ll see Thursday,” Bradfield said.
The Trojans managed seven hits in game one, two of which came from Karley Williams, who went 2-3 with two runs scored and a RBI. Kenady Waugh, Brynna Bowman and Kelsey Roberts each drove in two runs.
No. 9 Fairfield would take the second game 14-4. Haley Beard started on the mound and allowed three hits, two walks and three earned runs over four innings. She struck out three batters.
The Trojans were able to rattle the bats again, producing eight hits and drawing 11 walks. Bowman led the way by going 3-4 with two doubles and three runs scored. Williams, Sydney Burnett, Mackenzie McClure and Madison Roberts each drove in two runs.
