Fairfield softball team falls twice in Iowa City
The Fairfield varsity softball team had a difficult Friday at the Iowa City West Classic, falling twice on the day.
The Trojans lost 4-2 to Louisa-Muscatine. The team produced 11 hits but was not able to drive in any runs until the seventh inning, when they rallied to score two runs. Sydney Burnett and Alli Deao both had one hit and scored a run. Brynna Bowman and Kenady Waugh both went 2-4 and drove in a run. Mackenzie McClure went 3-3 at the dish.
Deao pitched all seven innings, giving up 12 hits and two walks in the process. She was consistently able to minimize the damage, and only gave up three earned runs.
Fairfield lost 12-1 to host Iowa City West. Burnett, Bowman, Marisa Repp and Madison Roberts each got into the hit column once. Bowman scored the Trojans’ only run, which was driven in by McClure.
Haley Beard pitched the first four innings and allowed eight earned runs on 10 hits. Bowman pitched two innings in relief, allowing only one earned run on three hits and one walk.
Class 4A No. 9 Fairfield (5-3) will host a Southeast Conference doubleheader tonight against Fort Madison. The Bloodhounds are 5-2 on the year.
