Fairfield sports update: JV baseball, softball, Babe Ruth League
JV softball team takes Burlington
The Fairfield JV softball team got the season started Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of Burlington.
Haley Beard struck out seven over six innings pitched in Fairfield’s 8-0 victory in the first game. Beard and Mikaela Lunsford both had two hits. Brooke McLain went 1-3 with a double.
Brynna Bowman struck out six hitters over six innings in Fairfield’s game two win. Bowman also had a great game at the plate, going 2-4 with a triple. Kaylee Watson went 2-3, while Ashtyn Drish and Sarah Swanson each hit a double.
The ninth-grade team will host Mt. Pleasant tonight, while the JV team will host Ottumwa Thursday.
JV baseball team off to rough start
The Fairfield JV baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader Tuesday in Williamsburg.
Game one ended with the score of 3-2. Tristan Ledger pitched four innings, giving up three hits, two walks, three runs and struck out three.
The final score of game two was 5-4. Giovanni Cingire pitched six innings and gave up only two earned runs while striking out seven. Cingire and Josh Osby each had a RBI. Brandon Smithburg scored three runs combined in the doubleheader.
Fairfield will look for its first win of the season tonight in Pella.
Babe Ruth teams to play Thursday
The two Babe Ruth League youth baseball teams will play Thursday for the first time this season.
Bob’s Automotive Red Sox will play a doubleheader against the Benjamin Franklin Cardinals. The games will be at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Babe Ruth Field.
