Fairfield sweeps Burlington to close regular season
The Fairfield softball team concluded its regular season Tuesday with a road doubleheader sweep of Burlington.
Marisa Repp powered the Trojans to their 7-2 game one win with a home run and four RBIs. The long ball was her fourth of the season. After driving in two more runs in game two, Repp finished the regular year with 32 RBIs, most on the team.
Kaylee Watson, Baylee Bowman and Kenady Waugh each finished with two hits in game one. Sara Trent had two as well, but her big game was still yet to come.
Trent drilled two home runs and finished with six RBIs in Fairfield 11-3 game two victory. Not a starter at the beginning of the season, Trent has found her place as the team’s designated hitter. She now leads the team in home runs with five and has driven in 26 runs. Only Repp, Mackenzie McClure and Karley Williams have driven in more.
Both seniors, McClure and Williams finished up game two with two runs scored and an RBI.
Alli Deao and Haley Beard combined to give up just 10 hits and two earned runs over 12 innings of work as the starting pitchers. Beard went five innings before giving way to eighth grader Ashtyn Drish. Drish gave up just one hit and no runs in two innings of work.
Class 4A No. 9 Fairfield awaits the winner of Keokuk vs. Mt. Pleasant, which will be played tomorrow. The winner will meet the Trojans at 7 p.m. Saturday at Fairfield Middle School.
The Trojans are a combined 7-1 and the Chiefs and Panthers this season.
