Fairfield Trojan Youth Football set to begin playing
The Fairfield Trojan Youth Football program is set to take the field again this August.
The program’s mission is to teach the fundamentals of football in a positive and fun environment. Fifth and sixth graders have the opportunity to join the program. Depending on the amount of kids who register, there will be three to four teams.
Registration for the league is set for Aug. 22, the night of Fairfield High School’s annual Meet the Trojans event. It will run from 5:30-8 p.m. in the FHS weight room. Registration will also take place Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Football camp will run from Aug. 25-27 at 5:30-7 p.m. nightly. Regular practices will be Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-7:00 p.m. starting on Sept. 2. Games will be played on Sunday afternoons at 1 p.m. starting Sept. 14, with the only exception being when the players get to play an exhibition game during the Fairfield freshman contest against Fort Madison on Friday, Sept. 26. Camp, practices and games will be held at the FHS practice fields.
The final game of the season will be played Oct. 12 at Trojan Stadium. Two fifth-grade teams will play at 5 p.m. and two sixth-grade teams will play at 6:30 p.m.
Dave Rippey and those running the program ask as many parents to volunteer as possible. Any parent wishing to be a head coach or an assistant coach can drop by seventh and eighth grade camp Aug. 19-20 to acclimate themselves with how camps and practices will be run.
