FHS Pops Concert Tuesday evening
The Fairfield High School music department will present the 2013 10th-12th grade Pops Concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the FHS Auditorium.
The concert will feature a variety of music from early jazz to today’s hits performed by several of Fairfield’s talented students.
The 10th-12th Concert Band will perform music from the movies and more, including: “Captain America”; “A Disneyworld Celebration” with “Fantasmic,” “Mickey Mouse March,” “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah,” “It’s a Small World,” “Part of Your World” and “Be Our Guest”; “Solemn Hymn for Bb Bugles and Wind Band” featuring Forest Miller, Makena Dettmann and Kayla Septer on trumpets; soundtrack highlights from “The Hunger Games”; “Jai Ho” from “Slumdog Millionaire”; and “Jubilant Flourishes.”
Next, the Fairfield Brass and Electric Jazz Band perform classic and modern jazz. “Mambo Swing” will feature Ashley Henkel, Makena Dettmann, Coren Hucke and Wyatt Andersen. “Sing, Sing, Sing” will feature Ashley Henkel, Wyatt Andersen, and Coren Hucke. “Angel Eyes” will feature Ashley Henkel.
The vocal portion will begin with the vocal ensembles.
The men’s ensemble, The GYZ, will be performing “Star Wars: John Williams is the Man,” featuring music by John Williams and solos by Coren Hucke and Forest Miller. Then the newly formed women’s ensemble, The GRLZ, will perform “Mama Who Bore Me” from the musical “Spring Awakening,” with solos by Kotie Webber, Baylee Bowman and Claudia Sloat.
The vocal jazz group, The Raw Notes, will perform “The Spiderman Theme,” featuring scat solos by Jessie Warner, Michael Brush and Madison Nelson. The other vocal jazz group, Jazz Ex, will perform “Lullaby of Birdland” and “The Golden Rule” with solos by Coren Hucke, Halie Meador, Forest Miller, Jaci Bell, Sarah Morgan, Baylee Bowman, Josiah Wilbur and Claudia Sloat.
To finish the concert, the large choirs will take the stage.
The Combo Choir will start with “Sing” by My Chemical Romance, featuring Sara Adam and Kenneth Boughner. Then, “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence, with a solo by Cara Johnson. Next, return to the ’80s with their performance of “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. The Combo Choir will finish with “Drops of Jupiter” by Train, with a solo by Madison Nelson.
Last, Vox will perform its entirely acapella set featuring several soloists, including: Claudia Sloat, Ashley Henkel, Jessica Lamb, Jon Anderson, Jaclyn Flinspach, Coren Hucke, Megan Harris, Arielle Smith, Halie Meador, Jordan Whitney, Wyatt Andersen, Sarah Morgan, Kotie Webber, Forest Miller and Josh Alonso. Its selections will include “I Got the Music in Me” from “The Sing-Off”; the men singing “Grace Kelly” by Mika; the women singing “Grenade” by Bruno Mars; “A Kiss from a Rose” by Seal; and “Everybody Talks” by Neon Trees.
The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Activities passes are accepted.
