Filing open for school board seats
Filing nomination papers to run for one of three open seats on the Fairfield Community School District Board of Directors opened Monday.
The deadline to file is 5 p.m. Aug. 1 for the Sept. 10 election.
Nomination papers are available at the Administration/Curriculum/Technology Center, open 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Candidates need 50 signatures of eligible electors residing in the school district.
Any person who is a United States citizen, 18 years old and older, is a resident of the school district and is eligible to register to vote, may run for school board. It is a volunteer position with no pay.
Fairfield school board has seven members. Each member is elected at-large in the district and serves four-year terms.
Jeri Kunkle, Bob Waugh and Jennifer Anderson currently hold the three seats expiring in September. Kunkle and Waugh have indicated they will not seek re-election.
Jerry Nelson, Amy Miller, Rich Metcalf and Jeremy Miller hold four seats, all newly elected in 2011. Those terms will expire in 2015.
Iowa school board elections are held every odd-numbered year.
