Fairfield Fire Department responded at 4:26 p.m. Wednesday to a grass fire in the ditch at 205th Street and the railroad crossing. Seven firefighters used water to extinguish the fire and returned to the station at 5:15 p.m.
Firefighters responded at 12:24 p.m. Wednesday to a smoke smell in a building at 52 W. Burlington Ave., U.S. Cellular. One firefighter using thermal imaging was able to detect a dysfunctional ballast in a light fixture, returning to the station at 12:40 p.m.
Firefighters responded to a possible grass fire at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, but returned to the station at 6:22 p.m. when it was found to be a controlled burn at Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
