First Presbyterian awards scholarships
The First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield recently awarded its scholarships for 2013 to graduating high school seniors and to those from the church family who are continuing their educational careers.
Sidney Baumann, daughter of Pam and Greg Baumann, who will be graduating from Fairfield High School in June, received a Presbyterian Scholarship. She will pursue pre-pharmacy at Marquette University.
Claire Slechta, daughter of Tricia and Scott Slechta, who also will soon graduate from FHS, received the Sharon Dailey Memorial Scholarship, given each year by Don Dailey and his family. She plans to attend Des Moines Area Community College in the liberal arts program and then transfer to a state university to major in psychology in order to become a clinical psychologist.
Scott Gleason, son of Julie and Marty Gleason, a medical student at Des Moines University, received the Dr. Robert A. Ryan Memorial Scholarship, made possible by a bequest from Ryan’s estate. Gleason has completed a bachelor’s degree in science and a master’s degree in anatomy at Drake University and will graduate from medical school in May 2014. He then plans to start residency as he pursues a career in orthopedic surgery.
