Five Trojans on all-district football team
Five Fairfield football players were selected to the Class 3A All-District 7 team recently. The Trojans finished the season fourth in the district with a 2-4 mark.
Seniors Dillon Fry, Mason Carnahan and Spencer Peterman were selected to the all-district team on the offensive side of the ball. Two-way senior lineman Jake Mineart earned a spot for the second straight year, and senior linebacker Aaron Gevock was recognized for his play on defense.
Fry, a two-year starting quarterback, completed 104 of 237 passes for 1,473 yards in 2012. He totaled 14 touchdowns through the air to go with two scores on the ground.
Carnahan, a first-year starter at running back, led the Trojans with 1,148 rushing yards and eight touchdowns this season. In the regular season, the senior ranked first in total rushing yards in the district.
Peterman, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound wide receiver, had the skill to match his size and was named Fairfield’s Offensive MVP this season. Peterman more than doubled his production from his junior year and led all of Class 3A in receptions, hauling in 55 catches for 729 yards. He scored six touchdowns.
Mineart, the only current Trojan to appear on the all-district squad twice, once again led from the trenches on both sides of the ball. When Mineart wasn’t opening holes for Carnahan or giving Fry protection, the senior was wreaking havoc on opposing offenses. Mineart finished the season with seven solo sacks and 13 tackles for a loss.
Gevock, a 5-foot-9, 155-pound outside linebacker, led the Trojan defense with 72 tackles this season. In just his first year starting, he also tallied two sack assists.
Eight Trojans also received all-district honorable mention, including seniors Seth Davisson, Jonny Swanson, Austin Deao, Gabe Jaquez, Justin Hammes and Josh Dimmitt. Juniors Vince Horras and Mason Ellis were also named honorable mention.
In addition, 16 Fairfield players and support staff members were named to the academic all-district team. The accolade goes to all junior and senior students who earned a grade point average of 3.25 or higher during the most recent grading period.
Seniors receiving the academic honor were Carnahan, Mineart, Swanson, Jake Kessel, Kyle Weirup and manager Leslie Reid. Ellis, Horras, Kooper Dahlstrom, Keagan Drish, Riley Hammel, Jonathan Hoehne, Alex Shier, Jordan Whitney, Matt Carr and manager Laura Jackson were juniors named to the list.
