Flipping the switch
Fairfield Mayor Ed Malloy, left, and a representative of Alliant Energy flip the giant switch outside the Fairfield Public Library Saturday that turned on the building’s solar array. The city contributed about $17,500 to purchase the solar array and Alliant Energy contributed slightly more than $18,000. The solar array is expected to save the library $2,500 in reduced energy costs every year. The event, which drew a crowd large enough to fill the library’s parking lot, was the culmination of Alliant Energy’s 18-month Hometown Rewards program. Fairfield was the first town to complete the program. Saturday’s event also featured free food and a free movie, “WALL-E,” shown outdoors on a projector on the west side of the library.
