Flower show winners announced
KEOSAUQUA — The Roberts Memorial Center in Keosauqua was filled with the color and aroma of flowers Saturday as area residents brought their best and brightest flowers, demonstrated their design skills and displayed their prize-winning vegetables.
The Town & Country Garden Club held its 43rd Annual Flower Show with the theme “Fairy Tales and Fantasy Gardens” for the enjoyment of area residents.
The prize winners from among hundreds of entries were: Christine Turner, Designer’s Choice Award and Sweepstakes Award for Designs; Judith Yeager, Award of Merit for Bulbs for her lily and the Tri-Color Award for her design; Beth Johnston, the Award of Merit for Annuals, Award of Merit for Vegetables for her vegetable basket and the Sweepstakes Award for Vegetables; Marsha Appleman, the Award of Merit for Roses; Judy Manning, the Alice Johnston Award for her potted geranium; Bobbi Hershey, the Arboreal Award for her blue hydrangea; Elizabeth Boelhouwer entered two prize-winning designs to take the Junior Division Design Award; Joyce Burdett, Award of Merit for Perennials; Connie Morris, the Ruth Bonar Award for her “One Enchanted Evening” table setting; and Hannah Charbonneau, winner of the Junior Division Award for Vegetables.
The public viewed the flowers and designs and listened to the music of fantasy as played by Doris Secor on the piano from 1:30-3 p.m.
Hand-painted entry category and other signs were painted by artist Connie Morris.
Flower show co-chairwomen were Marsha Appleman and Judy Manning.
The show featured 100 different classes of individual flowers, designs and vegetables in both adult and junior divisions.
