FMS marching band
The Fairfield Middle School marching band performs at the Fairfield High School football game Friday evening in Trojan Stadium. The band closed its marching season, with a halftime performance with the FHS band Friday and a performance in the Libertyville Halloween Parade Saturday afternoon. The band received second place in the junior high band division at the Ottumwa Oktoberfest parade Oct. 5. The band was inspected prior to the parade and scored on uniform appearance and neatness, various marching maneuvers, and several instruments were inspected for cleanliness and good playing condition. During the parade, the band performed “La Serpiente” by Mike Story, and was judged by two officials on the areas of music and marching precision. Comments from the judges included: “I can hear your woodwinds — great job!”; “Sound is very good in many sections”; and “Great to see such large student participation in band.” Eddyville-Blakesburg junior high band placed first in the division. The division had seven middle school/junior high bands represented from area schools. The FMS marching band is directed by Mary Andersen and assisted by Aaron Adam. Eighth grade drum majors for the group are Aluna Olaniyi and Kai-Li Diyaljee.
