FMS opens wrestling season
Wins came in bunches for the Fairfield Middle School wrestling team Tuesday at its season-starter in Fairfield.
With Keokuk, Ottumwa, Albia and Davis County all in attendance, 10 Trojan wrestlers were double-winners on the day. Another five wrestlers were victorious once.
Fairfield’s Michael Fritz and Trenton Hanen were perhaps the most dominant grapplers as each won a pair of sub-minute matches. Fritz won his matches in 49 and 18 seconds while Hanen won by fall in 49 and 39 ticks.
Bailey Jones, Dallas Peebler, Mitch Taglauer and Simon Spalla also won by fall twice, with all four wrestlers pinning one opponent in under a minute. Jose Rojo won by fall and 8-1 decision, Derek Beasley won by fall and 10-7 decision, and Charles Heisel won by 3-0 decision before pinning his second opponent. Chris Hanson won by fall and 6-3 decision, as well.
Single winners included Zach Barnes, Brendon Lunsford, Dylan Abbott, Bailey Kemp and Trenton Nelson. Lunsford won by decision, and the four others won by fall.
Overall, the Fairfield wrestlers grappled to a 25-17 match record Tuesday.
The Trojans have a week off before traveling to Fort Madison next Tuesday.
