Four blood drives set in local area

The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center has scheduled four area blood drives next week.

Lockridge Fire and Rescue will host a community blood drive from 3-7:30 p.m. p.m. Aug. 19 at the Lockridge Senior Center. To donate, call Joanna Miller at 319-931-2455.

Fairfield Arts & Concention Center will host a community blood drive from 3-6:30 p.m. Aug. 19 in the center’s Cambridge and Smith meeting rooms. To donate, call the Ottumwa Telerecruitment Department at 800-452-1097 or visit the website www.bloodcenterimpact.org.

Donors who last gave blood on or before June 24 will be eligible to give again at the Aug. 19 blood drives in Lockridge and Fairfield.

Hope Lutheran Church in Germanville near Brighton will host a community blood drive from 3:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 in fellowship hall. To donate, call the Ottumwa Telerecruitment Department at 800-452-1097 or visit the website www.bloodcenterimpact.org. Donors who last gave blood on or before June 25 will be eligible to give again at the Aug. 20 blood drive.

Birmingham Lions Club will host a community blood drive from 2:30-6 p.m. p.m. Aug. 21 at the Birmingham Lions Building. To donate, call Harry Anderson at 319-498-4201. Donors who last gave blood on or before June 26 will be eligible to give again at the Aug. 21 blood drive.

A potential donor must be at least 17 years old, although a 16-year-old can donate if he or she presents a signed parental permission form. The form is available at www.bloodcenter.org.

A potential donor must weigh at least 110 pounds and have photo identification or a Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center donor card.

An individual with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure can be accepted as an eligible donor.

According to blood center officials, blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes about 45 to 60 minutes.

The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center is the provider of blood and blood components to more than 87 hospitals in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri and Wisconsin. It is the exclusive provider to the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield, the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua and the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

The blood center’s mobile crew collected 12 pints of blood during the Aug. 5 drive at SunnyBrook Home Care Center.
