Free dance performance at IHCC
OTTUMWA — The University of Iowa’s premiere touring repertory company, Dancers in Company, will perform free at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. John Auditorium on the Indian Hills Community College Ottumwa campus.
Now in its 30th year, the company of graduate and undergraduate dancers are touring throughout Iowa and the Midwest, performing concerts and conducting outreach through lecture demonstrations for audiences of all ages.
This year’s Dancers in Company will also include a piece commissioned specifically for the concert by guest artist, Lisa Gonzales. She is an independent dance maker, performer, improviser and associate professor at Columbia College Chicago. Interested in the complex array of meanings revealed by bodies moving in relationship to each other and their environment, Gonzales’ work investigates some aspect of the power and frailty inherent in humanness. She has taught, performed and shown her work in spaces as diverse as DTW in New York; The Dance Center at Columbia College Chicago; the historic Lu–Ling Theater in Taipei, Taiwan; Dostoyevsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Russia; Helsinki, Finland; Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; and in other cities across the United States.
The full performance will include: “Bleed,” “After All,” “Dream State or Jung and the Restless,“ “Seltsame Seligkeit (Strange Bliss),” “Box Play Eight Times Labor,” “Empty Mouth,” “Myagi Style” and “Undercover.”
