Free tax filing program offered at Fairfield library
The free AARP tax-aide electronic filing program will be offered again this year at Fairfield Public Library.
The library site will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Appointments must be made at the site while the preparer is present.
In IRS-trained volunteer counselor will be working at the site.
The program is administered through the AARP Foundation in cooperation with the IRS.
Membership to AARP is not a requirement and no income threshold must be met; it is the complexity of the tax return that determines whether or not a taxpayer can be served.
No age limit is set; special attention is given to those age 60 and older.
The program is designed to provide free, accurate and confidential tax preparation and information on both the federal and state returns.
The following needs to be brought by the taxpayer: copy of last year’s tax return, Social Security cards for all household members. W-2s from each employer, unemployment compensation statements, SSA-1099 if Social Security was received, all 1099 forms, 1099R, child care provider information and any other tax related material showing income for the 2013 year.
