Fritz breaks school record in 500 freestyle

Courtesy of: PAM BAUMANN Fairfield senior Sami Fritz broke the school record in the 500-yard freestyle during Monday’s meet in Williamsburg.

WILLIAMSBURG – Sami Fritz had a swim meet to remember Monday in Williamsburg when she broke the school record in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:31.92, which was also good enough to win the race.

Fritz broke the old record by a whopping seven seconds. It was the fifth school record Fritz has set in her impressive swimming career.

Fairfield placed second as a team, finishing behind Tipton and ahead of Williamsburg, Oskaloosa and Vinton-Shellsburg.

The 200-yard medley relay team placed second with a time of 2:07.18. That team comprised Jada Lippincott, Megan Sullivan, Fritz and Brynna Bowman. In the 200 freestyle, Lauren Ward placed fifth with a time of 2:35.86.

Lippincott placed third in the 200 individual medley with a 2:41.94. Fritz won the 50 freestyle, zipping past the competition in 26:25. Bowman placed third in the same event with a time of 29.50. Ward was fifth with a 30.52.

Lippincott shined in the 100 butterfly, besting all competitors in just 1:13.14. Sullivan was nipping at her fins, finishing second with a time of 1:22.15.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Danielle Elliott placed fourth and Blair Bowman fifth, with no times provided. First place went to the Trojans in the 200 freestyle relay. Fairfield finished the race in 1:51.73. The members of the relay team were Lippincott, Fritz, Elliott and Brynna Bowman. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Sullivan placed third with a time of 1:29.27.
