Garrels named MVP of Class A District 6
Quentin Garrels of Pekin has been named the Class A District 6 offensive MVP for the 2012 season, headlining a group of six Panthers who earned first team all-district honors.
Garrels, Pekin’s star senior running back, racked up an astounding 1,877 rushing yards and a class-leading 31 touchdowns this fall. He boasted a nine yards per carry average while leading the Panthers to a 7-2 regular season record and playoff berth.
Other Panthers earning first team recognition were senior Graham Wittrock; juniors Jared Bond, Petie Clubb and Eric Adam; and sophomore Tanner Adam.
Wittrock, a three-year starting quarterback, threw for 859 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. Bond led the defense with 85 tackles, Eric Adam made 72 stops while Clubb totaled 68 tackles. Tanner Adam had a team-high four picks.
Senior linemen Seth Jensen and Thomas Slaney were recognized on the district’s second team, as was junior tight end Brody Long.
Honorable mention went to junior wideout Cade Millikin and senior linebacker Austyn Vogel.
At the team’s season-ending banquet Monday, Garrels was named Offensive MVP and Bond won Defensive MVP. Nazareth Rambo and Cory Loyd shared the Most Improved Award.
