George Arthur Phillips
DERBY, Kansas – George Arthur Phillips, 83, passed away Friday, April 14, 2017. He was born October 21, 1933 to George and Lura (Speer) Phillips in LeClaire, IA. George joined the Air Force right of high school. After his honorable discharge, he worked at several Wichita area aircraft companies. George then began his 30 year career with American Sterilzer as a service technician.
Following retirement, he worked in that same capacity at Wesley Medical Center.
George enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He loved playing and coaching soccer. George’s most enjoyable past time was spending time with his grandchildren and family, including several appearances as Santa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Karen Brower and Janet Farrier; son-in-law, Richard Henry; and siblings-in-law, Lawrence Peck and Bonita Peck. George is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Phillips; children, Scott (Melissa) Phillips and Gale Henry; grandchildren, Jennifer (Zachary) Fleming, Jessica (Seth) Hudson, Scotty (Taylor) Henry, and Cory Henry; brother, Frank Phillips; siblings-in-law, Phyllis Phillips, Junior Farrier, Robert Floyd, and Stanley Ann Floyd; and a loving extended family.
Memorial Service: 2 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2017 at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 No. Rock Rd, Derby, KS 67037. Inurnment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
