Gingerbread houses sought for display at Gothic House
ELDON — The annual Gingerbread House display at the American Gothic House Center in Eldon will be held Dec. 1-14.
Gingerbread house builders — amateur and professional builders alike — are asked to bring their creations to the center by Nov. 30 for the annual Christmas season exhibit.
The houses will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 1-4 p.m. Saturdays through Mondays.
While on display the houses will serve as an inspiration for the annual gingerbread house building planned for Dec. 8.
The building event is designed for younger family members to learn how to build, design and decorate gingerbread houses using graham crackers, frosting and candy. Volunteers will be on hand to help with the houses, and there will be Christmas treats for the builders.
The gingerbread house building is only one of many events going on in Eldon the weekend of Dec. 7-9. The McHaffey Opera House will host “Christmas in Wanderland,” where close to 100 Christmas trees decorated by area organizations and volunteers will be on display. The Rock Island Depot will hold an open house, and there will be a tour of homes, among other activities.
