Girls' tennis falls at Fort Madison
FORT MADISON — The Fairfield girls’ tennis team staged a rally in doubles action Tuesday before coming up just short, 5-4, vs. Fort Madison in a Southeast Conference dual.
Seniors Haylee Gilpin and Kim O’Carroll pulled out an 8-8 (7-4) tiebreaker win at No. 1 doubles, and No. 2 doubles duo Karley Williams and Rachel Hathaway claimed an 8-4 win to close the gap on the Bloodhounds.
Williams also opened the evening with an 8-1 win at No. 2 singles, and O’Carroll took an 8-3 victory at the No. 3 spot.
Fairfield beat Fort Madison in JV doubles matches 4-2. Emma Lemlin and Harley Cook and the team of Abby Shaner and Sierra Simmons earned a pair of 6-1 victories. Bryana Gridley and Audry Hammes won 6-3, and Caitie Johnson and Eden Bell also teamed up for a 6-3 win.
Fairfield continues its season Thursday at Mount Pleasant.
