Iowa District 47 Sen. Mark Chelgren, right, listens to Cardinal High School industrial technology teacher Tom Cope, center, talk about the school’s greenhouse Monday with Chelgren’s assistant Blake Smith. Chelgren wanted to see what is happening in schools, said Superintendent Joel Pedersen. Chelgren spent around four hours at Cardinal and attended Cardinal’s Veterans Day assembly. He invited alternative students to visit his businesses in Ottumwa.
