Greiner, Hietpas honored by FBLA
Michele Greiner and Joanne Hietpas, co-chairwomen of the Friends of FBLA in Fairfield, were honored as Iowa Business Persons of the Year at the recent Future Business Leaders of Amercia state conference in Coralville.
The honor was bestowed on them because of their instrumental role in the success and development of the newly formed group. They also have spearheaded several events this year, as well as chaperoning at state and national conferences. Friends of FBLA, a local organization formed in 2012, supports members of the FBLA chapter at Fairfield High School. The group serves as a bridge between students and community business leaders by assisting with mentoring and educational opportunities for the students. The partnerships offer students opportunities to develop business and leadership skills.
Friends of FBLA supported numerous events this school year, including an evening with local entrepreneurs from Cedar Valley Winery, a tour of Agri-Industrial Plastics Company and a “speed mentoring” night for local business leaders to talk with students about career interests and goals. In addition, local experts were paired with students as they prepared for state FBLA competitions.
Friends of FBLA is adding new members. Various roles and levels of responsibility are available. Some members take the role of supporting students as they prepare for competitions. Others help with fundraisers, serve as guest speakers or become officers.
