Habitat for Humanity seeks partner family for 2013 project
Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Fairfield Area is looking for a partner family to start the 2013 building project.
Families in need of simple and decent housing can contact the family selection office by calling 233-8112 or emailing Shanaz Kreider at email@example.com by Thursday. Applications also can be accessed through fairfieldhabitat.org and mailed to the address indicated on the website by Thursday.
Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, habitat builds and renovates simple, decent houses with the help of homeowner partner families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no interest and financed with affordable mortgages. Mortgage length varies from seven to 30 years. House costs are kept low by using locally available materials and volunteer labor.
The homeowner monthly mortgage payments go into a revolving fund used to build more houses. Habitat carries out its mission at the community level through organized groups called affiliates.
Families in need of decent housing can apply to local habitat affiliates. The affiliate’s family selection committee chooses homeowners based on their level of need, their willingness to become partners in the program and their ability to repay the no-interest loan. Every affiliate follows a nondiscriminatory policy of family selection. Neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing homeowner families.
The Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Fairfield Area built its first house in 1997. Eight more houses have been built since then. In April, the habitat group in Fairfield will begin its 10th building project. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit Christian housing ministry inviting people from all walks of life to work together in partnership to help build houses with families in need. Habitat has built more than 500,000 houses and served more than 2 million people around the world.
Community members can get involved by contributing financially to the local habitat affiliate at PO Box 334, Fairfield 52556 or offering their leadership or expertise to the affiliate and participating in habitat fund-raising events.
Affiliates need people to help build, to serve on committees, and to spread the word about Habitat for Humanity.
