Haynes leads Van Buren at Central Lee
DONNELLSON — Van Buren’s Hanna Haynes won two individual events and helped anchor the shuttle hurdle relay to victory Tuesday at the Central Lee girls’ track meet in Donnellson.
The Warrior senior placed first in both the long jump (15’ 4”) and 100-meter hurdles (15.9). The shuttle hurdle relay team of Haynes, Allison Dickinson, Steph Woodruff and Kimberly Heisel crossed the finish line in 1:19 for gold.
The three wins were the only first-place finishes for the Warriors, who ended up fourth out of eight teams with an 88-point tally. Host Central Lee won the title with 155 points, while Danville was second (114) and Lone Tree claimed third place (100).
Van Buren received a pair of second-place finishes from junior Unity Daugherty in both the 3000-meter run (12:11) and the 1500 (5:46). In addition, the 4x800 relay team of Caitlyn Millard, Sydney Atwood, Alicia Fitzsimmons and Carissa Kobelt claimed second place with a time of 12:40.
Jordan Billups, Aletha Wenke, Jordan Gire and Heisel combined to finish third in the 4x200 with a time of 2:16.
The Warriors have a week off before returning to action April 9 in Bloomfield.
