Herd of cows on Iowa highway causes crash
GILBERTVILLE (AP) — Authorities say a meandering herd of cows on a highway in northeast Iowa caused several vehicles to crash, but no one was seriously injured.
The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office says the cows were across the road early Tuesday on Interstate 380 just south of the Highway 20 interchange when a semitrailer traveling southbound struck at least two of them. The driver told police there were at least five cows on the road.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports the semitrailer went into the median, tipped onto its side and slid into the northbound lane. A northbound car crashed into the semi, while a second southbound semitrailer hit another cow.
Two of the drivers involved received minor injuries. At least two of the cows were killed.
