Home energy assistance available
The Sieda Jefferson County Resource Center is taking applications for its energy assistance program.
The program is known as Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, and Sieda began taking applications for it Nov. 1. Households can apply for the program through April 30, 2014. The program pays for a portion of a household’s heating costs according to the family’s income and its size.
In order for a single person to be eligible for LIHEAP, he must earn a gross income of less than $17,235 annually. For each additional person in the household, the income limit rises $6,030.
Households that earn more than the LIHEAP guidelines may still be eligible for assistance through a medical waiver. The medical expenses must be documented, paid and non-reimbursable.
The Jefferson County Resource Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For further information, contact the Jefferson County Resource Center at 472-6140. The assistance is based on household income, household size, type of fuel, and other factors.
The program is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services through the Iowa Department of Human Rights.
