‘Home Grown’ theme for art walk
The Fairfield 1st Fridays Art Walk from 6-9 p.m. Friday on and near the Fairfield square is a “Home Grown” event showcasing established and up-and-coming local artists and musicians.
Art walk has partnered with numerous downtown businesses to showcase the art and the artists.
Revelations will host cellist Hannelore Clemenson, performing a mix of classical and folk in the front room during the evening.
At an expanded exhibition of Yantra Blessings artwork by Peter Clemens, visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artist from 6-9 p.m. and receive a free gift of his art.
ICON Gallery opens Whimsy: Play, Quirk and a Tongue-in-Cheek Aesthetic, a collection of abstract works of art curated by Ken Dubin. All the artists live and work in Iowa: Judy Bales, Ken Dubin, Benjamin Gardner, Robert Hoerlein, Dennis Kowalski, Mary Laube, Amber O’Harrow, Lee Emma Running, Michael Rutherford, Gyan Shrosbree and Jim Shrosbree. The gallery is open from 6-10 p.m. for art walk, and the show continues through July 5.
The Orpheum Theater opens an exhibition by Madison Gremillion and Lane Hollrah. The Dave Leffler Quartet will perform smooth jazz starting at 7:15 p.m. in the café. The artsy science fiction film, “Under The Skin,” rated R and starring Scarlett Johansson, opens in the theatre. Topping it off, Ingrid Best performs Late Night Jazz starting at 10 p.m. Admission is $7.
Earth & Water Tea welcomes Heather Miller playing a set of acoustic folk music, 7-9:30 p.m.
Pure Imagination Tattoo is hosting David Murphy with hard rock music 7-8:30 p.m.
Gallery 56 is featuring artwork by painter Nick Ulin. The Jesse White group will perform from 7-8:30 p.m.
DJ Astro Raph will be performing an electronic set outside in the “Art Alley” and will feature a live painting by Ras Christos from 7-9 p.m.
The experimental rock group Tires from Ames will perform at the new Arbor Bar at The Gardens restaurant, along with tropical funk band Vacation Dad of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Attendees must be age 21 or older.
Additional art walk venues include: Blue Fish Gallery, Americus Diamond with new work of business owner Kris Kupfer, At Home Store which will showcase a cooking demonstration, Finnywick’s Toy Store, Henderson’s Gallery & Framing, Chickadee and Cravin Cupcakes, Crest Jewel with Janu Gems, Urban Collective Gallery and Chocolate Café.
Volunteers will be handing out maps and locations of all the participants beginning at 6 p.m. during the art walk.
