IDOT offices, services close for Christmas, New Year’s
AMES — AMES — The Iowa Department of Transportation is announcing its Christmas and New Year’s holiday schedules for the Office of Vehicle & Motor Carrier Services, which includes the Motor Carrier Permit Center, and all IDOT-operated driver’s license stations.
All IDOT business locations will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
The Iowa DOT’s Office of Vehicle & Motor Carrier Services’ permit center will resume normal operations at 8 a.m. on the Thursday following the holiday closures.
Because the Office of Vehicle & Motor Carrier Services typically experiences a heavy workload on the day following a holiday, customers are urged to submit applications for oversize permits, especially those weighing more than 156,000 pounds, several days before the permit is needed.
The Office of Vehicle & Motor Carrier Services, located at 6310 SE Convenience Blvd. in Ankeny, is a one-stop source for fuel, trip and oversize load permits; International Registration Plan registration; International Fuel Tax Agreement licensing; and travel authority needed by motor carriers and commercial vehicle operators to operate in Iowa.
All IDOT driver’s license stations, normally open Tuesday through Saturday, will alter their hours Dec. 24. The stations will open at 7:45 a.m. and close at 4:15 p.m. These stations will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Normal business hours will resume at 8:30 a.m. on the Thursday following the holidays.
