IDOT will close for Memorial Day holiday
The Iowa Department of Transportation will be closing its offices for the Memorial Day weekend, May 24-26.
All business locations will be closed May 26.
All IDOT driver’s license stations will be closed. The stations will resume operations at 8:30 a.m. May 27.
IDOT’s Office of Vehicle & Motor Carrier Services, normally open Monday through Friday, will be closed May 26. Normal business hours will resume at 8 a.m. May 27. This includes the permit center.
IDOT recommends that commercial vehicle operators plan ahead if they will need services from IDOT around the Memorial Day weekend. Commercial vehicle operators who need fuel or trip permits for travel in Iowa during the Memorial Day weekend should obtain them prior to 4:30 p.m. May 23.
No movements of oversize loads will be permitted in Iowa from noon May 23, until 30 minutes prior to sunrise on May 27.
Because the permit center typically experiences a heavy workload on the day following the holiday, customers are urged to submit applications for oversize permits, especially those more than 156,000 pounds, several days before needing the permit.
The permit center, located at 6310 SE Convenience Blvd. in Ankeny, is a one-stop source for fuel, trip, and oversize load permits; International Registration Plan registration; International Fuel Tax Agreement licensing; and travel authority needed by motor carriers and commercial vehicle operators to operate in Iowa.
