IMS shuts out Pekin baseball team
KALONA — Behind a stellar performance from senior starter Cameron Gingerich, IMS kept Pekin off the scoreboard and posted a 9-0 win Friday in Kalona.
Gingerich struck out nine and allowed just three hits to toss the complete game shutout. Meanwhile, IMS jumped on top with three runs in the second inning and Lane Schrock smacked a grand slam in the third inning to break the game open. IMS, which led 8-0 after three, scored one more run in the fifth inning.
For Pekin, senior Graham Wittrock, junior Cade Millikin and sophomore Cole Reighard had one single apiece. Zach Sloan, a junior, took the loss in the 3 1/3-inning start. Sloan allowed eight runs, though only two were earned, and he walked six. Senior Nazareth Rambo tossed the final 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run, but none earned. Nazareth gave up one hit and one walk, striking out five.
Pekin (2-2) hosts Highland today.
