Iowa Artists regional show in Fairfield
Artists 18 years of age and older can enter up to three original works in a variety of media in an annual Iowa Artists regional competition, with winners advancing to a state competition.
The Fairfield Art Association is hosting the Area XII competition from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 9 at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center’s Main Gallery.
The counties in Area XII are: Jefferson, Henry, Lee, Van Buren, Louisa, Muscatine, Washington and Des Moines.
Works are judged and critiqued by a professional during the show day, with blue-ribbon winners advancing to a state competition in May.
Entry is free, but artists must be members of the organization. Membership can be paid prior to or the day of the show. The show day schedule has delivery of artwork to the host gallery from 9-10 a.m. While art is being hung, an art demonstration takes place for participants from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the studio.
A regional meeting follows, and then artists have lunch at local restaurants. Awards are presented to winners at 1:30 p.m., followed by the judge’s critique of the works. All artwork will remain on display in the Main Gallery through March 23 for the public to view. Flexible pick up of artwork is through the end of the month.
Acceptable mediums include: • 2-dimensional includes painting in any media, drawing any media, collage and mixed media. These must be framed and ready to hang. • 3-demensional includes jewelry, fiber and textile, ceramic-pottery, sculpture and glass.
In all categories, work must be totally original – in concept and executed by the artist. Unacceptable are photos, computer-generated art, videos or film. Artwork must have been done in last two years and not previously shown in Iowa Artists’ shows. Maximum dimensions are 4 feet by 4 feet in any direction.
Each work must be labeled with artist name, address, phone, email, title, medium and price. The same information should be sent by March 4 to Suzan Kessel, 412 Heatherwood Circle, Fairfield 52556 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Late entries will not get listed in the booklet for show day.
