Iowa D.O.T. closed for Thanksgiving holiday
AMES — The Iowa Department of Transportation is announcing the Thanksgiving holiday schedules for the Motor Carrier Permit Center and all Iowa D.O.T.-operated driver’s license stations.
All Iowa D.O.T. business locations will be closed Nov. 22 and 23.
Motor Carrier Service Permit Center
The Iowa D.O.T.’s Office of Vehicle and Motor Carrier Services Permit Center will be closed Nov. 22 and 23 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The office will resume normal operations 8 a.m. Nov. 26.
Because the office typically experiences a heavy workload on the day following the holiday, customers are urged to submit applications for oversize permits, especially those weighing more than 156,000 pounds, several days before the permit is needed.
The office, located at 6310 S.E. Convenience Blvd. in Ankeny, is a one-stop source for fuel, trip and oversize load permits; international registration plan registration; international fuel tax agreement licensing; and travel authority needed by motor carriers and commercial vehicle operators to operate in Iowa.
Iowa DOT’s driver’s license stations
All Iowa D.O.T. driver’s license stations, normally open Tuesday through Saturday, will be closed Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 22-24, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
In lieu of Saturday service, the stations will be open Nov. 26, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Normal business hours will resume at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 27.
