Iowa man charged after schools goes on lockdown
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — An Iowa man who prompted a school lockdown in southeastern South Dakota is facing charges in multiple alleged incidents in the region over the past six weeks.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says 32-year-old Scott Hughes, of Akron, Iowa, faces charges including burglary, arson and intentional damage to property.
Hughes was arrested Wednesday in Akron after allegedly going on a crime spree and fleeing from law officers.
The Elk Point-Jefferson School in Elk Point was put on lockdown status for a little less than two hours as a precaution while Hughes was on the run.
