Iowa veteran to run for King’s House seat
BOONE (AP) — A Democratic Iraq war veteran has signed up to challenge Republican U.S. Rep. Steve King in Iowa's 4th Congressional District.
Jim Mowrer said Tuesday that he plans to run in the 4th District. The 27-year-old Boone native hasn't held elected office before, but he says he wants to continue serving his country.
Mowrer joined the Iowa National Guard at 17 and served in Iraq in 2005 and 2006. Most recently he has been working at the Pentagon.
Mowrer says he wants to help find commonsense solutions to the nation's problems.
But Mowrer will face a difficult challenge in King, who enjoys strong support in the district he has represented for six terms.
