ISU Extension offering ServSafe certification course
Local county offices of ISU Extension and Outreach are sponsoring food-safety certification courses for food service managers and employees Friday in Albia and Jan. 16 in Burlington.
The classes run from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
“We want food that is safe as well as tasty, but we know that food safety hazards and risks are prevalent in today’s world,” said Patricia Steiner, nutrition and health specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach. “Serving safe food is mandatory. These sessions teach food service workers about the safest way to prepare foods they serve as well as industry standards and their obligation to meet them.”
According to Steiner, the program is based on the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation’s ServSafe certification program and the Iowa Food Code. Participants will receive a copy of the ServSafe managers training manual and have the option of testing for certification.
For more details about the program or to register, contact Steiner by calling 319-394-9433 or 800-914-1914 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
