ISU Extention offers food safety sessions
ISU Extension & Outreach is offering two food safety certification courses for food service managers and employees through the ServSafe certification course.
Classes are held from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 26 in Fairfield and from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Jan. 16 in Burlington.
“We want food that is safe as well as tasty, but we know that food safety hazards and risks are prevalent in today’s world,” said Patricia Steiner, nutrition and health specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach. “Serving safe food is mandatory. These sessions teach food service workers about the safest way to prepare foods they serve as well as industry standards and their obligation to meet them.”
According to Steiner, the program is based on the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation’s ServSafe certification program and the Iowa Food Code. Participants will receive a copy of the ServSafe managers training manual and have the option of testing for ServSafe certification.
