Jack L. Cavenee
Jack L. Cavenee, 81 of Fairfield, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.
Cremation has been accorded as per his request, and a graveside service will be conducted at the Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Fairfield or to the Fairfield Fire Department and mailed to Raymond Funeral Home, 112 W. Burlington Ave., Fairfield 52556

Mr. Cavenee was born Dec. 16, 1931, in Lockridge, the son of Dr. Waldo R. and Mildred M. Newberg Cavenee. He married Shirley Ann Clark Aug. 26,1955 at First Christian Church in Fairfield.
The family lived in Lockridge until Mr. Cavenee was 5 years old. He has been a resident of Fairfield for the past 76 years.
He is a graduate of Fairfield High School and attended Parsons College for three years and the University of Iowa for one year.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Fairfield.
He was a member of the Walton Club, the Fairfield Golf and Country Club and the Fairfield Elks Lodge. He was a PGA gold professional in 1961.
He worked for Armour Company, and at the Philco-Ford for 12 years as a time-study engineer, and was the golf pro and superintendent at the Fairfield Golf and Country Club.
He was a member of the Fairfield Fire Department for 37 years and served as fire chief for 17 years.
He also worked at Pierson & Pierson Plumbing and Heating for 23 years, Fairfield Flower Shop and Pedrick & Thorne Ace Hardware Store.
He loved flowers, gardening and sports.
Survivors include his wife Shirley; and one sister, Virginia Smith of Scottsdale, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Juanita Long; and one brother, Kenneth Cavinee.
